Weather forces cancellations at DeKalb

The 81st Annual Chuck Dayton Holiday Tournament at DeKalb, the longest running boys basketball Christmas tournament in the state, was canceled after the first three games Tuesday, including games involving Huntley and Burlington Central.

Huntley was to have played Rochelle and Burlington Central was scheduled to take on host DeKalb, but the severe weather conditions forced DeKalb officials to cancel the rest of the day after Chicago Vocational defeated Rockford East 75-55 in the day's second game. Geneva opened the day with a 96-67 win over North Grand.

Other games canceled included scheduled contests between Dixon and Chicago Hirsch, Chicago Military against Machesney Park Harlem and Rockford Jefferson vs. Wilmington.

The tournament will resume on Friday at 9 a.m. when Huntley's game against Rochelle will be played.

Burlington Central's game against DeKalb has been taken off the schedule. The Rockets will play Harlem at 10:30 a.m. Friday, while Geneva faces Jefferson at 7 p.m.
