Woman rescued from condo fire in Vernon Hills
Firefighters who pulled up to a blazing Vernon Hills condominium Friday night rushed inside to find an unconscious woman and quickly carried her to safety, officials said Saturday.
"The first company that went in found her laying in the hallway" to her bedroom, said Assistant Chief Bill McCormick of the Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Department.
Firefighters quickly carried her to safety and took her to Advocate Condell Medical Center. Because of medical privacy laws, no further information on her condition was available.
McCormick said the fire occurred in a four-unit, two-story condominium building on the 1200 block of Georgetown about 10:15 p.m. and firefighters who responded were greeted by flames shooting out of the unit's windows.
The unit is unlivable, but families in the three other units were able to return home the same night.
Although the fire was quickly extinguished, officials took no chances and fire trucks from Countryside, Long Grove, Buffalo Grove, Deerfield, Lake Forest and Lake Zurich responded to the scene.
