Sizzling Blackhawks win sixth straight

CALGARY, Alberta - On a frigid Alberta night with temperatures well below zero outside the Saddledome, the Blackhawks managed to stay red-hot.

Duncan Keith's goal 23 seconds into overtime gave the Hawks a 3-2 victory over the Calgary Flames on Friday, extending their winning streak to six games.

"This is awesome to be part of right now," said Patrick Kane, who scored his 15th goal. "We're getting contributions from everyone, and it feels good just to chip in."

Keith's winner came off a scramble after Jonathan Toews darted to the net and drew a penalty. But the Hawks didn't need the power play as Keith's backhander found the back of the net with Flames goalie Miikka Kiprusoff down and out.

"It was a nice play by (Toews) to go to the net, and there was a scramble there and I was just following it up," Keith said. "It's just nice to come out on top, especially on the road here."

It was a relatively quiet night for Toews before he helped decide the game.

"It was one of the only rushes I had all night," Toews said. "It was one of those things where you just try to take the puck to the net."

The Hawks stood up to the physical Flames and gave it right back at times, although they were outhit 17-8. But the final score is all that mattered.

"We dug deep tonight," Toews said.

"Anytime you can come into Calgary and get 2 points, it's nice," Kane said. "This is a tough place to play."

Unlike Tuesday's 9-2 rout of the Oilers, there was to be no blowouts on this night. This was a tight game throughout.

"It's great to learn how to win different ways because that's how it's going to be in the playoffs," Kane said.

Playoffs? Why not? With 41 points now, only San Jose and Detroit have more than the Hawks in the Western Conference.

The Hawks continued to get spectacular goaltending with Nikolai Khabibulin making 32 saves.

"Our goaltending has been a key for us," Hawks coach Joel Quenneville said. "We've been relying on it and it's been predictable and dependable. It kind of gets us in games. Tonight we came out of the first period down 1-0, and we picked it up. The key area has been the solid netminding we're getting."

Trailing 1-0, the Hawks got goals from Dave Bolland and Kane in the first seven minutes of the second period.

Kane's goal came on a power play and was a beauty, beating Kiprusoff from inside the right circle with a wicked wrist shot into the top left corner of the net.

Calgary's David Moss made it 2-2 at 8:32 of the second period, and Khabibulin kept it that way with a big glove save on Todd Bertuzzi minutes later.

"Once we get to overtime, we didn't want to be satisfied with 1 point," Toews said.

"They're a young team with energy and they just keep coming at you," Flames defenseman Adam Pardy said.
