Prospect takes pair with 'huge' effort

The Prospect girls gymnastic team made a bit of a statement at Wheeling on Tuesday night.

Despite the meet being delayed 45 minutes because of weather, the Knights were right on time.

Senior Emily Rossdeutcher took second in the all-around (36.175) leading the Knights to the victory with 139.07 points in the Mid-Suburban League East Division triangular.

"This meet was huge for us," said Rossdeutcher, who took first on the floor exercise (9.4) and second on balance beam (9.425). "Our score was amazing, hitting a 139 this early in the season is just incredible."

Buffalo Grove took second with 129.05 points, followed by Wheeling 119.85.

Junior Katie Colmone aided the Knights by taking first on uneven bars (8.9) and tying for second on vault (9.35).

"It was my first full meet so I did all right," said Colmone who was coming back from a concussion she suffered at the Rolling Meadows Invite on Dec. 6. "We have a lot of potential on this team and we're really looking forward to this season."

Knights sophomore Christina Pekar took third on floor (8.95).

"We're executing very well," said Prospect coach Julian Basler. "We kept it simple. We are nowhere near tapped out, we have a lot left."

Junior Linda Dunne took third in the all-around (35.75), including first on vault (9.4) and beam (9.45) to lead Buffalo Grove.

"Beam and vault were definitely my best today," Dunne said.

Wheeling junior Amy Burke had an outstanding night, taking first in all-around (36.25).

Burke took second on floor (9.35), tied for second on vault (9.35) and bars (8.6), and finished third on beam (8.95).

"Floor has usually been one of my weaker events," Burke said. "But with the energy of my team and my coach, it helped me get more adrenaline."
