Bears sign linebacker, put Wolfe on injured reserve

The Chicago Bears signed linebacker Gilbert Gardner to the 53-man roster and placed running back and special teams player Garrett Wolfe on injured reserve today.

Gardner was a third-round selection (69th overall) in the 2004 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts out of Purdue. In three seasons with the Colts, Gardner started 15 of 37 games, recording 97 tackles (47 solos), 1 sack, 1interception and 3 passes defensed. After being released by the Colts in 2007, he was claimed off of waivers by Tennessee and appeared in 13 contests for the Titans and finished second on the team with 15 special teams stops. He signed with the Detroit Lions as an unrestricted free agent on March 24, 2008, appearing in two contests this season before being released on Oct. 25.

Wolfe appeared in 13 games for the Bears this season and led the team with 21 special teams stops before being sidelined with a hamstring injury.
