List of Wheaton candidates grows

The list of candidates interested in the West District seat on the Wheaton City Council continues to grow.

Newcomer Jim McMahon submitted his nominating paperwork Thursday, adding his name to a ballot that already includes Todd Scalzo. Scalzo unsuccessfully ran for the council in 2007 when he faced four opponents for two at-large seats.

Dave Johnson, the incumbent occupying the seat, currently is the longest-serving city council member.

The general election is April 7. A primary will be held Feb. 24 if five or more candidates file for any geographic seat.

The filing period ends at the finish of business on Dec. 15.
