A leader who'll think things through
Yeah, I know I'm a little late. I was just so ... taken aback? ... by the election of Barack Obama. While I have voiced my opinion here on his behalf, I kind of just figured no Way would the rest of the country vote for this man. Obviously, I was wrong. With the Daily Herald's op-ed I could not agree more. We are at a crucial junction in our history. With the Obama election I believe we have someone in the White House who will actually think things through before forming his opinion on which course to take. While others in these pages have pooh-poohed what I've written here on what was to come, we now find our country in the beginnings of what could possibly be the worst economic times ever. Every day we hear of numerous job losses. More foreclosures, and possible the bankruptcy of our Big 3 Automakers. While the bailouts of our financial industry was almost a forgone conclusion, I'm amazed that most people rail at a loan to the Big 3 as something worse. Most of us here do agree that our country has lost way too many manufacturing jobs. Do we now want to lose our auto industry? I myself, as a union man, have hardly understood the practices of the Big 3 and the UAW. Wait, we pay our employees all of their wages when they're laid off? Boy, tell me what worker wouldn't take that deal? But it was wrong, as were so many other moves by the Big 3. But does that mean we let them move to bankruptcy? But I, for one, am grateful that now it appears we will have someone at the helm of this great country that will think of our nation first.
