Lux's Irish choice all in the family

Really, there could only be one college choice for Kathryn Lux. She just had to make it official.

The Glenbard West senior recently did, signing to play softball at Notre Dame. Lux's dad, Thomas, as well as her grandfather, aunt and uncle all attended Notre Dame. Older sister Christine is a junior in South Bend and a member of the softball team.

"It was one of my dream schools," Lux said. "When my sister went there, it made it more realistic."

Lux, who plans to double major in psychology and education, hit .406 last year for Glenbard West with 5 doubles, 4 triples, a homer and 23 RBI. She hopes to continue at shortstop at Notre Dame, but hasn't been given a position.

"I'm so excited, especially to be able to play one year with my sister," Lux said. "It was hard to stop playing when she graduated from Glenbard West, and now I get the opportunity again. It's special."

Hilltoppers teammates Ashley Steinhilber and Jayme Hefler also made recent commitments.

Steinhilber signed with Valdosta State in Georgia. The Hilltoppers catcher hit .266 last year with 4 homers, picked off 8 runners and threw out 10 basestealers. Hefler, who signed with Lewis University, hit .376 last year with a .417 on-base percentage.
