On Thursday, the choral groups present "Women of Note" at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. The concert includes guest performers from the area middle and elementary schools.
Elgin High School
On Thursday, band, choral and orchestra students combine to perform Holiday Constellation Concert at 7 p.m. at the school. Admission is $1 per student, $2 per adult, and $6 per family.
Larkin High School
On Tuesday, choral students present a Holiday Concert at 7:30 p.m. in the school auditorium. Tickets are $1 for students and senior citizens, $2 per adult, and $5 per family.

Canton Middle School
On Tuesday, the choral and orchestra students combine for a concert at 7 p.m. in the gym.
On Thursday, band students will join with 5th and 6th grade students from the feeder schools to present a concert at Streamwood High at 7 p.m.

On Tuesday, the orchestra students will present their concert at 7 p.m. at the school.
Larsen Middle School
On Tuesday, intermediate orchestra students present their concert at 7 p.m. in the auditorium.
On Wednesday, cadet band students present a winter holiday concert at 7 p.m. in auditorium.
On Thursday, the choral students will present their concert at 7 p.m. in auditorium.
On Friday, the choral groups perform at Spring Hill Mall in the Sears wing from 10:15 to 11 a.m.
Tefft Middle School
On Wednesday, orchestra students will present a concert at 7 p.m. in the auditorium.
On Thursday, choral students will present a concert at 7 p.m. in the auditorium.
On Friday, an all school dance will be held at the school from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Century Oaks Elementary
On Wednesday, choral students in grades 4-6 will present a holiday program at Larkin High School at 7 p.m.
On Thursday, the Student Council is hosting its first Holiday Family Night, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Children can to purchase inexpensive Christmas gifts for the family. There will be entertainment in the Chit Chat Cafe provided by staff members and snacks prepared by the sixth grade. There will be a coat giveaway for Century Oaks children in need. The coats have been donated by Kildeer Countryside Elementary School in Long Grove. Each year Kildeer Countryside chooses a school to adopt as their sister school. They are asking for a small donation to fund their PBIS program for the children's PAW store at Century Oaks.
Highland Elementary
On Thursday, the Recorder Club (students in grades 4-6) will present a holiday concert at 7 p.m. in the gym.
On Friday, DARE students will hold their graduation at 1 p.m. at the school.
Horizon Elementary
On Wednesday, Judson University teacher/author Steven Layne will speak at two assemblies at 8:15 and 9:15 a.m. He teaches courses in children's and adolescent literature and the art of teaching reading. He also serves as a literacy consultant, motivational speaker and featured children's author, both in and outside the United States. Layne's work has been recognized with national awards for outstanding work and contributions in the fields of educational research and teaching. He also is the author of a wide variety of award-winning picture books, young adult novels and gift books.
Lords Park Elementary
On Tuesday, students in grades K2 will present an annual Holiday Sing at Elgin High School at 7 p.m.
McKinley Elementary
On Thursday, students in grades 5-6 will present a musical called "Go West" at the school at 4 and 6:30 p.m. The school chorus is also participating.
Nature Ridge Elementary
On Thursday, students in grades 3-6 will present a Holiday Sing at South Elgin High School at 7 p.m.
Prairieview Elementary
On Monday, the school will present its annual Holiday Sing at Bartlett High School. Grades K-1 perform at 5:30 p.m.; 2nd graders will perform at 6:15 p.m.; grades 3-4 will perform at 7 p.m.; and grades 5-6 will perform at 7:45 p.m.
Wayne Elementary
On Tuesday, students will present a music program, "It Is December." Students in grades 1, 5 and 6 will perform at 6:30 p.m.; students in grades 2, 3 and 4 will perform at 7:30 p.m. at South Elgin High School.

• Eastview Middle School teacher Susan Collins' students participated in the VFW's annual Patriot's Pen Contest. The theme for the Veteran's Day essay was "Why Americans Should Honor their Veterans." Gretchen David took first place, and Tyler Turasky took second place.
The students did the research and wrote the papers with help in spelling and grammar only.
