Use caution with gift cards
The Better Business Bureau cautions consumers to be aware when purchasing gift cards, such as fees that may be attached for contacting customer service, loading more money onto the card and inactivity. The organization recommends paying close attention to all terms and conditions associated with prepaid bank cards and encourages consumers to read the fine print. The agency says consumers should be aware of various types of cards and services; use cards in a timely manner to avoid possible expiration dates and service fees and check store return policies to ensure you are refunded properly when using gift cards. Variety show at school
The Vernon Hills High School student and staff variety show will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, at the school, 145 Lakeview Pkwy., Vernon Hills. The theme is "Bringing it Back Home." Tickets will be on sale during lunch periods Wednesday and Thursday for $5 each.
New Gurnee police service
Gurnee police say they will offer traffic crash reports through a new online service. Police said the reports will be available 24 hours a day in an easy-to-read, east-to-find PDF format. The TRACView Accident Report System will charge a convenience fee in addition to the report's cost. Those who need traffic crash reports and don't want to pay the extra online fee still may obtain the documents at Gurnee police headquarters, 100 N. O'Plaine Road.
Garden club to celebrate

World AIDS Day dinner
In commemoration of World AIDS Day, Catholic Charities Lake County Services will hold a Celebration of Life Dinner from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, at Ramada Inn and Conference Center, 200 N. Green Bay Road, Waukegan. "Worlds AIDS Day and the Celebration of Life dinner are great ways we can highlight the lives of those living with HIV/AIDS, instead of focusing on their disease," said Scott Ewart, director of Catholic Charities HIV/AIDS program in Lake County.
