People have spoken loud, clear on taxes

In Nov. 23's Daily Herald, Mr. Ed Sullivan, a state representative for the 51st District, stated that we should talk to the taxing bodies regarding their reduction in the taxing levels. I wonder if Mr. Sullivan is aware that the referendums that we reject at every turn would and should indicate to the educated and elected officials of these taxing bodies that we do not want increased taxes. I have a great idea. Stop the constant income to the taxing bodies without any accountability to the spending of those tax dollars and watch the spending stop. No money equals no spending. The schools are the worst of all and especially Big Hollow School District. They raised their spending by more than $4 million in one year. They spend on some items that are just ridiculous. No one says "no" to a teacher or there is a strike vote and boom, all is forgiven and given in the same vote of the elected offices. I have another idea. The Unions cannot strike for anything other than work conditions. No money issues or pension issues or insurance issues allowed on the table. I know it will never happen but the issues that raise our taxes in the schools of Lake County have nothing to do with the education of the children and everything to do with the economic increases demanded by the officials and teachers to line their pockets. I wonder, HAS ANY OF THEM REALIZED THAT WE ARE HAVING TROUBLE KEEPING OUR HOMES AND FEEDING OUR FAMILIES AND GETTING OUR HEALTH CARE? They are supposed to be educated and caring but they are only greedy and deaf to the needs of the residents. Maybe it is time for additional change because, Mr. Sullivan, it has fallen on deaf ears for more than 13 years so far.
