Little, Bartlett handle Fremd

Fremd started out hot against Bartlett on Saturday evening at the Waukegan tournament, but the Vikings couldn't hold off the Hawks in the end.

The Vikings began the game on a 10-0 run and lead 16-8 after the first quarter. But a huge night from Bartlett senior guard Marc Little and a big second quarter from Hawk junior reserve guard Frankie Cleope helped lead Bartlett to a 70-53 victory.

Little scored 34 points for Bartlett, with 22 of them coming after halftime. Cleope scored 13 of his 18 points in the second quarter, when Bartlett outscored the Vikings 22-12.

Bartlett was able to pull away down the stretch of a game that was tighter for most of the game than the final scored indicated.

Fremd trailed 30-28 at the half and was down by just 8 points heading into the final quarter before some turnovers sparked a Bartlett run that put the game out of reach.

Bartlett sank nine 3-pointers in the game, which was a big key to their victory. The Hawks sank four 3-pointers in their big second quarter to quickly cut into Fremd's lead.

Luke Labedzki had 2 of those 3-pointers on his way to 10 points for Bartlett.

The Vikings got a great performance from senior guard Dan Bruno, who led the team with 19 points. Junior guard Chris Klimek had 10 points for the Vikings before fouling out of the game.

Junior forward Charles Rosenberg and senior guard Alexander Weis both turned in solid performances off the Viking bench with 7 points each.

The Vikings had a very solid night as a team from the free-throw line. Led by Bruno, who was 7-for-8, Fremd went 20-for-25 from the charity stripe.
