No one hurt in Round Lake Beach house fire
No one was injured in an early morning blaze that destroyed a home at 1020 Villa Vista Road in Round Lake Beach, fire officials said.
Firefighters were called to the scene at about 6:45 a.m., and immediately called for additional help when heavy smoke was seen, said Capt. Derrick Warner of the Round Lake Area Fire Protection District.
"The smoke was so bad that it blacked out our view of Fairfield Road one block away," he said. "Thankfully, no one was inside."
He said firefighters did an initial sweep of the home before surrounding it and hosing water on to the structure to douse the flames.
He said three of the four family members were out of town for the holidays, while the fourth was at work when the fire started.
"The roof let go about five minutes after we rolled up on the scene," he said. "We don't have a dollar amount at this point, but the home is completely destroyed."
He said the fire remains under investigation, but that it's not suspicious.
Firefighters from Fox Lake, Round Lake, Grayslake, Lake Villa, Antioch, Newport, Gurnee, Wauconda and elsewhere were called to the scene to provide assistance or staff fire stations for other departments battling the fire.
