Madison students learn the cultures of different countries
It's not often you can sit for a Japanese tea service, fly through a salsa dance, and then take a tour through Africa all in one morning.
Students at Madison Elementary School in Wheaton got to do all that and more when the entire school turned into a lesson on culture.
Each grade picked a specific region of the world on which to focus and selected activities and costumes to go along with it. Kindergartners focused on Mexico, the first grade picked Asia, second-graders were in Europe, the third grade went with the Pacific, fourth-graders focused on Latin America and fifth-grade students worked on Africa.
All students cycled through each destination before the day was over, giving them a chance to experience firsthand the backgrounds familiar to many of their peers.
