Small change, big help for Isaac

The City of Wheaton Water Department has my appreciation for allowing small change to make a big change in the life of 11-year-old Isaac Wright of Wheaton who has battled leukemia for six years.

Recently, Cub Scout Pack 134 approached the city with an idea for a service project. The water department offered to give Pack 134 loose coins that had been shoveled up from the bottom of public fountains in Wheaton. The coins were unusable in their dirty condition. Pack 134 spent hours washing the coins and sorting out pebbles and other debris. The tally of the renovated coins was $107.

Pack 134 donated the coins to the Hope for Isaac charitable fund in honor of Isaac, who is waiting for a double-cord blood transplant that will cost $85,000, not covered by insurance. Wheaton and Glen Ellyn-area volunteers are working in cooperation with the Children's Organ Transplant Association (COTA).
