Fox River Grove man dies after falling down stairs
A 61-year-old Fox River Grove man died over the weekend after falling down a flight of stairs outside his home, police said Tuesday.
William V. Dickey, of 404 Park Ave., fell between 12 and 15 feet down the set of stairs attached to his back porch, then bumped the side of his head against a landscaping brick, Police Sgt. Michael Cisner said.
Dickey's roommate found him deceased in the backyard Saturday morning, Cisner said.
Members of the Fox River Grove Rescue Squad and the McHenry County Sheriff's Police responded to the scene, according to a news release.
McHenry County Coroner Marlene Lantz said preliminary autopsy findings indicate Dickey had lung cancer and could not conclude what caused the fall.
Police also could not say why Dickey fell.
Toxicology tests and the autopsy results won't be known for between two weeks and a month, Lantz said.
Funeral arrangements were pending Tuesday afternoon.
