Learn to motivate your teen at class

The Student Services Department of John Hersey High School invites parents to attend a quick course in student motivation at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 18, in the school's library classroom. With the 2008-2009 school year well underway, first quarter grades reported, and first semester soon coming to an end, Student Services wishes to help parents who are frustrated or stressed about their children's academic progress. The one-night session will help parents assist their sons and daughters in handling the rigorous demands of a high school education.

"Motivating Your Student" focuses on a review of current academic progress, a discussion of the multiple stressors that teenagers face in today's world, a look at what staff and parents can do to work together to motivate students, and a host of useful parental strategies to promote success at the high school. All parents of Hersey students are invited and encouraged to attend, especially parents of freshmen and sophomores with disappointing grades. For details, call (847) 718-4859.
