Lake needs better north/south corridor
This month marks the one-year anniversary of the I-355 extension in the western suburbs. It is being proclaimed a "huge success" as it has not only relieved traffic congestion but arguably more importantly has given DuPage and Will counties the economic boost they have needed. This is despite a very tough, nationwide economy. Lake County however continues to have no adequate north/south corridor in central and even western sections of Lake County.
Lake County property taxes are among the highest in the nation because it simply cannot draw enough industry or economy-driving businesses, and property owners are getting clobbered. Route 12 stifled like it has been also does not lend itself to taking advantage of the natural resources/tourism possibilities in northwestern Lake County (District 5), which if pursued also would improve our economy. Now that Senator and Democratic Leader in Lake County Terry Link has been elected to yet again another term, it is long overdue that he gets the capital bill passed and that Lake County gets its desperately needed fair share of funding for either the Route 53 extension or a Route expansion plan, with stoplight removal, more bridges, more frontage roads, etc. No more excuses for the Democrats in Lake County. They practically control all of Illinois. Time to get it done.
