Postelection letter to my grandkids

I sat down and wrote to my five grandchildren about this historic election. (Two voted in their 1st presidential election):

"Hi, grandkids all: Just a couple of 'after-the-big-election-day' thoughts ... I've yet to hear any of the 'pundits' refer to Tuesday's monumental historical event as having a universal impact, but it certainly seems that way to me. I'll bet the World will look at us in a whole new light and, hard as it is to comprehend, they just might not only 'like' but, more importantly, respect and trust us more than has been the case for decades. In the whole cosmic view of things, it seems that the many potentially cataclysmic events that have taken place in more recent years and, particularly, the last few months, may have laid the groundwork for a radical change in our mindset as a people - how we view ourselves in relation to the rest of the universe. Tears shed election eve reflected a deep sense of relief, comfort, optimism and expectation along with intense gratitude for those whose lives paved the way. The door has been opened, a leader chosen, the path cleared. It is left for each of us to resolve that we will no longer be satisfied with, nor allow anything less from those who govern than total dedication to the 'other' rather than 'self.'"
