Aurora police looking for info on fatal shooting
An investigation is continuing into a home invasion and the shooting death of a 33-year-old Aurora man Tuesday night on the city's near west side, police said Wednesday.
Police said they were called about 7:20 p.m. to a home on the 200 block of North Chestnut Street and found several men who had been shot or beaten.
Investigators said it appears two men forced their way into the house and began beating at least three men who were inside.
At some point during the incident, Mario Vasquez was shot in the neck. Vasquez, who police said was not one of the invaders, was pronounced dead at an area hospital.
A 21-year-old Oswego man, who apparently was among the invaders, also was shot and is under police guard at an area hospital, authorities said.
"There are several elements of this case that are not yet clear to investigators so they're still working the case hard," police spokesman Dan Ferrelli said.
Two other Aurora men, ages 29 and 37, who were in the house at the time of the attack, also are in police custody. Both were treated and released Tuesday night after being beaten in the melee.
Ferrelli said officers don't have a reason for the attack.
"We don't have a definitive motive yet but we certainly have reason to believe narcotics could be involved," he said.
He declined to answer whether any narcotics or weapons were recovered from the scene.
Two others in the house at the time, a 31-year-old man from Aurora and a 20-year-old man from North Aurora, were released without charges. The North Aurora man also was treated and released for injuries he sustained.
Police said they believe at least one suspect and one resident of the house fled before officers arrived. No charges have been filed.
Anyone with information is urged to call police at (630) 801-6655 or Aurora Area Crime Stoppers at (630) 892-1000.
