Clerk closes departments on Election Day
The vital records and tax extension departments in the Lake County Clerk's office will be closed for walk-in customer service and non-election telephone calls on Tuesday, Nov. 4 for the General Election. Due to the limited number of full-time staff and with the increasing number of voters served, every county clerk staff member is needed for election support. All departments will reopen for service at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5. Emergency needs regarding vital records or tax matters occurring on Election Day should be directed to the county building's main number at (847) 377-2000.

Mark Hanis, executive director of the Genocide Intervention Network, will speak about the situation in Darfur, Sudan, at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, at Elm Place Middle School, 2031 Sheridan Road, in Highland Park. The public is invited to attend.
Career fair at Stevenson High
More than 70 professionals will be on hand to discuss their careers with Stevenson High School students and parents during a career fair Thursday, Nov. 6. Careers in medicine, law, engineering, hospitality, finance, business and many other industries will be represented. The career fair is from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the forum and west commons.
Census workers needed
The U.S. Census Bureau is looking for temporary, part-time workers to help with the 2010 Census. Anyone who's interested can take a qualifying test at 5:30 p.m. and 8:45 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6 at the Fremont Public Library, 1170 N. Midlothian Road, in Mundelein.
