Boy Scouts to honor former St. Charles mayor Norris
The former St. Charles mayor Fred T.L. Norris has been selected as the 2008 Distinguished Citizen by the Three Fires Council, Boy Scouts of America. Norris has been active in Scouting for over 55 years serving as a Scoutmaster, a committee chairman, and a member of the Three Fires Council executive board for 20 years. Alarm Detection Systems has also been selected as the Distinguished Corporate Honoree.
Norris and Alarm Detection Systems will receive the honors at the council's Distinguished Citizen Award Luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday Nov. 6 at the Q Center, 1405 N. Fifth Ave., St. Charles. The luncheon also serves as a Scouting fundraiser. Tickets and sponsorships are available to purchase online at www.threefirescouncil.org.
Matt Ackerman, Scout executive for the Three Fires Council, was quoted as follows: "Scouting relies on strong positive role models. Our honorees care deeply about our communities and are excellent role models for our youth to strive to emulate."
Several hundred guests will gather to recognize Alarm Detection and the former mayor for his lifelong commitment to youth programs. The proceeds from the event will support the Scoutreach program ensuring that Scouting's leadership and character-building benefits are available to those youth who are most at risk and often overlooked by other youth programs.
In 2007, the Three Fires Council served more than 36,000 youth throughout DuPage, Kane, Kendall, DeKalb, and parts of Will and Cook counties. Our mission is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetime by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law.
