Bioneers Symposium is Nov. 14 at MCC
We've all heard of IQ, but what's your EQ? Residents can learn how to raise their environmental quotient (note: it's easier than raising your intelligence quotient, and may even save you money!) from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 8 at the Beginning Bioneers Symposium at McHenry County College.
Hosted by the Green Business Referral Exchange, MCC's Lou Marchi Total Recycling Institute and the McHenry County Environmental Alliance, the event will feature sessions from the October 2008 national Bioneers conference and presentations by regional experts on energy savings, green building, recovering water on residential property, and sustainable agriculture.
The Bioneers is an award-winning national group of people which, for almost 20 years, has been a leading source of innovative solutions for individuals, communities, cultures and generations to catalyze and grow strategic networks that promote and a more sustainable world.
"In addition to theory and national initiatives, residents will have an opportunity to gather information and tools for use in their own yard and neighborhood," said Pat Dieckhoff, waste reduction assistant at the Lou Marchi Total Recycling Institute of MCC.
Business owners will be particularly interested in hearing the panelists Larry O'Connor, CEO of Other World Computing, new headquarters building is being certified as Gold Level LEED, and George Tuhowski, general superintendent of Leopardo Construction, who is a Chicago Chapter board member for the United States Green Building Council. Also speaking on sustainability in action via DVD from the 2008 national Bioneers conference will be Ray Anderson, CEO for Interface Inc. Anderson will show how his company is half way to a zero footprint by 2020. For a full list of program presenters, visit Web site mcbioneers.com/program.htm.
Green businesses will be exhibiting their products. Businesses can still sign up for a table to display their products. Environmental organizations also will have displays. To register for a table, go to Web site mcbioneers.com.
