Driver charged with DUI after tollway rollover

A Muncie, Ind., man was charged with DUI after his pickup truck rolled over in Schaumburg early Thursday.

Charles P. Clark, 30, crashed his truck at the I-90 toll plaza that leads to southbound Route 53 at around 6:10 a.m., state police officials said.

Clark was listed in fair condition Thursday afternoon at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.

State police Master Sgt. Bill Aukstolis said the silver pickup flipped over on its side and blocked all traffic making its way onto Route 53 on ramp.

Reports said the vehicle had swerved to the right, struck the median, flipped on its side and caught fire.

Aukstolis said a medivac helicopter was called to the scene, but was waved off by emergency personnel because the patient was stable enough to be driven to the hospital.

Three lanes of the highway were shut down immediately following the accident but were reopened later in the morning.>
