Year of the Cubs?

Nope, we got snubbed

Throughout the decades, we've heard the call

Though every year we somehow fall

It is the fate, held for me and you

For all the fans, who bleed Cubby blue

We've all been waiting, for a sign from above

That this was to be, the "Year of the Cubs"

There was never such promise, in so many years

With a team this good, you should have no fears

We had super stars, who can bat and pitch

With Dempster and Wood we made the switch

With Soriano and Lee, we were all elated

Fukudome was on the cover, of Sports Illustrated

With Zambrano and Lilly, our bullpen was deep

We had Coach Piniella, in the driver's seat

And with Soto the catcher, the "Rookie of the Year"

We could go all the way, this it seemed clear

We lead the whole season with the runs that we scored

In the Central Division, we won the award

Through all of the playoffs, we won home field advantage

And the Dodgers, it looked, we would easily manage

But then something happened, yes, something went wrong

And all of our World Series hopes, they were gone

Our batting and fielding could not have been worse

It was like we were stricken, by some invisible curse

For it was all over in 3 painful games

Swept in the first round, last year was the same

Year after year, there's one truth that holds true

If you're a Cubs fan, you're mostly scar tissue

So for all the Cubs fans, the tried and the true

There is consolation, the Sox, they lost too

And this I can tell you, with lack of all fear

We will win the World Series, in the next 100 years
