Small voting area puts library in bad light

Today I had the opportunity to take advantage of the "early voting " process that is being offered at the Schaumburg Library to suburban Cook County residents.

All of the volunteers at the polling area were extremely nice, but I was appalled at the conditions that they had to "make do." Early voters are asked to go to the basement (named "the dungeon" by some) and proceed to cast their vote. The small voting area was crowded, and chairs had to be moved to accommodate a handicapped person using an electrical scooter.

As a taxpayer who has previously been proud of our beautiful library, I was disappointed and embarrassed that our library could not provide better facilities for people trying to do their civic duty.

It's a shame that our library didn't see this as an opportunity to show off its beauty, its accessibility and its resources to those who might not be familiar with Schaumburg. There is still time before the election, so perhaps there is still time for the Schaumburg library to put its best foot forward!
