Party to benefit pooches
A fundraiser benefiting Fortunate Pooches and Lab Rescue Inc. will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, at Durty Nellie's, 180 N. Smith Road, Palatine. "Beer Tasting and a Band" will feature a Halloween-themed beer tasting, followed by the band Roller at 9:30 p.m. and rock band karaoke. Democrats offer rides to polls
The Schaumburg Area Democrats will provide rides to all Schaumburg Township citizens who need assistance getting to their polling places on Election Day. The organization serves Schaumburg, Elk Grove Village, Hanover Park, Hoffman Estates, Roselle, Rolling Meadows and Streamwood.
Woodfield bus tours to start
Grayline will run bus tours from downtown Chicago to Schaumburg's Woodfield Mall every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday beginning Saturday, Nov. 1, for the holiday shopping season. Tours will depart from more than 70 different downtown hotels and accommodate a five-hour stay at the center. The fare, which includes a book of discount offers from stores and restaurants throughout the mall, is $40 for adults and $30 for children ages 5 to 14. Children 4 and younger are free. Tours can be booked at grayline.com/Chicago or through hotel concierges. The tour has a minimum requirement of 15 passengers. If a tour is canceled, reservation-holders will be entitled to a reschedule, tour credit or refund.
Election packets available
Nominating papers for three 4-year trustee positions on the Buffalo Grove village board are currently available at village hall, 50 Raupp Blvd. The packets are available between 8 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Monday and 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. Completed petitions may be filed from 8 a.m. Jan. 19 through 5 p.m. Jan. 26. The trustee seats for Jeff Braiman, Bruce Kahn and Brian Rubin are all up for election.
Energy speaker to appear

Village to back Olympics
The Lincolnshire Village Board is considering a resolution to support Chicago's bid to bring the 2016 Olympics and Paralympics to the region. Trustees are expected to vote on the measure tonight. That meeting is set for 7 p.m. at village hall, 1 Olde Half Day Road. Chicago is one of several cities being considered.
