Elk Grove takes invitational title

Elk Grove (23-12) won its own girls volleyball invite with a 4-1 record Saturday as Krystina Leazer finished with 54 kills and Katie Loos added 19.

Lake Park Invite: Mid-Suburban League West co-champ Conant (27-7) went 4-1 and took third place as Katherine Hozian (36 kills), Mandy Larsen (30 kills), Kristin Perschon (14 blocks) and Tricia Kutrumanes (78 assists) were among the floor leaders for the Cougars.

MSL West co-champ Fremd (29-6) went 4-1 in the tourney and topped MSL champ Hersey (27-8) in three games for fifth place.

"We saw some good competition," said Hersey coach Nancy Lill, whose team went 3-2. "We pretty much handled Fremd for a game and half, then they really started playing great defense and played real well the second half of the match. We learned we could play at the level of some strong teams in this tournament."|

Buffalo Grove Invite: Tracy Hefferan (25 kills, 6 blocks, 10 digs) and Kathleen Hudson (12 aces, 52 digs) were named to the all-tourney for Prospect as the Knights (16-19) went 3-2 and finished third.

BG (7-26-2) was led on attack by Jill Kazmierczak, who put down 15 kills in three matches Saturday.
