Were you sleeping through Econ 101?
In the past few days we have seen letters to the Fence Post expressing opinions as to the cause of the financial breakdown. Some blame President Bush. This surprises me because I was given the impression (from other writers) that he was as dumb as a pet rock, yet then he miraculously becomes smart enough to plan this crisis. Many blame Wall Street and the greedy people who work there.
I would be careful, they may be blaming their relatives and my son-in-law. A recent (10/5) writer blames fat felines. My favorite are the lawyers. Nothing moves in business unless it gets passed under the nose of the lawyers.
If they sniff it and it does not stink too badly, it gets passed. They also provide cover for the fat felines and the politicians; just ask Barney Frank; he wants everyone to own a house, with your money. Perhaps the fault lies with those who slept through Economics 101.
It all boils down to what your grandma tried to teach you: First you save a dollar then you can spend a dollar, or the old forgotten Bohemian installment plan, 100 percent down, $0 per month.
