Mt. Prospect Lions helping Gustav relief
The damage from Hurricane Gustav was devastating and it will take many months, if not years, for residents to rebuild.
Mount Prospect Lions Charities, Inc. and its disaster relief program "Operation ROAR," have rallied area Lions clubs to send $2,000 in Wal-Mart gift cards to two of the hardest hit areas in Texas and Mississippi.
The gift cards have been sent to Lions clubs in Lubbock, Texas, and Diamond Head, Miss., where Lions members there will distribute the cards to residents who need them to purchase cleaning supplies and other items.
"Having seen the Hurricane Katrina devastation firsthand, I can't imagine what it must be like for some of these people to have to live through another storm of that magnitude," said Operation ROAR Co-Chairman Tom Laws of Elk Grove. "Operation ROAR's mission is 'Lions helping Lions help others.'" Checks, payable to the Mount Prospect Lions Charities, Inc (ROAR), can be sent to P.O. Box 332, Mount Prospect, IL 60056.
Speaking of Lions: The Mount Prospect Lions Club will hold a nonperishable food drive at its final farmers' market of the season this Sunday to replenish the village's food pantry. The pantry needs applesauce, cereal, canned fruits, cookies, candy, canned meats, prepared foods like canned ravioli and spaghetti, Sloppy Joe mix, spaghetti sauce, tuna, baby diapers, shampoo, laundry detergent, paper towels, napkins, toilet paper, bar soap, and female hygiene products.
