Lake in the Hills teen dies five days after crash
A Lake in the Hills teen died Tuesday, five days after he lost control of the car he was driving and crashed into a tree in Huntley.
Anthony Gagliano, 16, of 461 Windermere Way, was pronounced dead at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge Tuesday night, Cook County Medical Examiner's officials said Wednesday, as a result of injuries sustained from the accident that took place in Huntley on Oct. 16.
McHenry County Sheriff officials said Gagliano was heading north on Coyne Station Road at about 2:40 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 16, and attempting to pass another vehicle when he lost control of his 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix.
The vehicle left the road and slammed into a tree on the west side of the road. The car spun a couple of times after hitting the tree, but did not flip over or catch fire, officials said.
Officials confirmed the accident happened in a no-passing zone and that speed may have played a factor in the accident. Also, both front air bags had deployed in the crash and the driver was wearing a seat belt
Front seat passenger Michael W. Clark, 17, also of Lake in the Hills, was taken to Centegra Memorial Medical Center in Woodstock and released the next day.
Gagliano had been transported in serious condition to Memorial Hospital, but had been moved to Lutheran General.
Police officials said drugs and alcohol did not play a role in the accident.
