Fox Lake man gets 35 years for molesting teens
A federal judge sentenced a Fox Lake man to 35 years in prison Tuesday for luring teens on Facebook into sexual relationships and then blackmailing them with nude pictures to continue the abuse.
Michael Macalindong was sentenced by Judge Ronald Guzman, according a statement from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement department, which pursued the case with the Lake County State's Attorney's Office and the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Macalindong was arrested Jan. 31, 2007, and pleaded guilty June 2 of this year to eight counts of producing child pornography, possession of child pornography and attempted child enticement.
He was arrested after one of his victims came forward to police.
"This case reveals the disturbing truth that some adults will go to great lengths to sexually exploit minors," said Gary Hartwig, special agent-in-charge of the ICE Office of Investigations in Chicago, in a prepared statement.
