Hoffman beats BG in MSL volleyball crossover

Girls volleyball

Hoffman Estates d. Buffalo Grove: Megan Bernardoni had 4 kills and Lauren LaMasse added 2 blocks for visiting Hoffman (11-22) in a 25-17, 25-17 Mid-Suburban League girls volleyball crossover triumph. Jada Stotts, LaMasse, and Stephanie Schwarz (3 assists) each added 2 kills for the winners while Becky Gilbert was 36-36 setting for 7 assists.

BG (6-22-2) was paced by Jill Kazmierczak and Alyssa Feld, who each had 3 kills, while Katie Quill led the back row with 9 digs and Victoria Ito added 8.

Fremd d. Elk Grove: The Mid-Suburban West co-champs (25-5) posted a 25-19, 25-19 triumph in the MSL second-place crossover as Stephanie Alesia (9 kills), Kaitlyn Pascus (6) and Colleen Andersen (3) led the Vikings' attack. Sarah Welsh had 5 digs and was 19-of-21 serve receiving while Natalie Bruck (11 assists) and Kayla Price (9) set the offense.

Host Elk Grove (19-10) was paced by Stephanie Maday, Katie Loos and Krystina Leazer, who all had 4 kills from setters Kelsey Prochenski (7 assists) and Jessica Condon (7 assists).

Wheeling d. Palatine: Bianca Szafarowicz put down 11 kills while Stephanie Kuzmanic, Diana Stankowicz and Kayla Jordan all had 4 for the host Wildcats (8-27) in a 25-20, 25-19 victory in the MSL crossover.

Barrington d. Prospect: Emily Harris and Anabel Perry each had 3 kills while Madison Lang (3 blocks) handed out 14 assists for visiting Barrington (9-19) in a 25-17, 25-19 victory

Madeline Root led the back row with 10 digs while Tanya Mookerji collected 8.

Kristin Soderman and Kristy Fijal each had a block for the Fillies.

Schaumburg d. Rolling Meadows: Schaumburg (12-22) was led on attack by Ellen Kostecki (6 kills), Emily Young (5) and Sarah McGinn (5) as the Saxons posted a 25- 22, 25-19 triumph. Young also had 14 assists while Marni Gonnering had 7.

Dana Demmert collected 6 kills, 7 digs and 2 aces for host Meadows (14-21) while teammate Katie Stensland had 9 assists, 7 digs and 2 blocks.

St. Viator d. St. Joseph: St. Viator (16-18) finished 5-5 in the East Suburban Catholic Conference with a 25-17, 25-20 triumph over St. Joseph. Emily Leazer (7 kills) and Michelle Warnimont (6) led the Lions' attack set by sophomore Carlyn Clevenger, who had 18 assists.

Girls cross country

Prospect Invite: Prospect, led by sophomore Kathryn Lowry's fifth-place finish (19:53), took home second place behind Lake Park (29) in its own invite with 58 points. The Knights' Lexi Glennon (19:57) and Michelle Sciortino (20:12) were seventh and ninth respectively.

Boys cross country

Prospect Invite: Prospect's Pat Ford took first place (16:30) as the Knights took second place (39 points) behind University High (36) in their own invite.

St. Viator's Nicholas Fratto (16:58) was sixth as the Lions took fourth place with 123 points.

Girls swimming

Prospect d. St. Viator, Wheeling: Prospect defeated St. Viator 100-62 and Wheeling as the Knights won the 200 free relay with Greta Pietraszek, Meg Dix, Kelly Wilson and Molly Nordyke touching home in 1:47.86.

Wheeling senior Marissa Reeves won the 200 IM (2:22.43) and the 100 free (1:00.66) while St Viator senior Mallory Harper was first in the 100 fly (1:08.47) and the 500 free (5:56.93).

Libertyville d. Fremd 103-82: Fremd's Megan Kennedy came home first in the 200 free (2:15.54) and 400 free (4:44.60) while teammate Erika Lauraitis won the 100 back with time of 1:13.74.
