Diesel fuel leaks into Itasca pond
Crews Saturday afternoon were called to a pond behind an Itasca apartment building for a complaints of a nasty smell.
The Roselle Fire Protection District and the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency determined diesel fuel from a stormdrain had somehow leaked into the pond near 1640 Norwood Ave., fire officials said. Crews arrived around 12:15 p.m., and have since taped off the pond to prevent access. No one was hurt or hospitalized, and the spill poses no immediate danger to the residents, fire officials said. EPA crews will be on hand today to clean up the spill and further investigate the cause.
