Des Plaines
• A teenage boy was seen on a security videotape stealing a security camera from a laundromat inside 1330 E. Rand Road around 8:50 a.m. Oct. 14. A vandal also shot BB-gun pellets through windows there. Damage and theft were estimated at $250.
• A 1994 Ford Mustang on the 500 block of West Kathleen Drive was vandalized between 8 p.m. Oct. 13 and 2 p.m. Oct. 14; damage was estimated at $200.
• A blue BMX bike with "BEARS" written in orange letters and worth about $60 was stolen from a bike rack outside the library, 1501 Ellinwood Ave., 4:30-6:30 p.m. Oct. 14.
Mount Prospect
• A 2003 Acura 3.2TL in an apartment lot on the 1400 block of Canford Cliffs Road was broken into around 4:20 a.m. Oct. 12. The owners heard the window break and saw the burglar sitting in their car. One owner ran outside; the burglar grabbed the GPS unit and cell phone and ran from the car, climbing over a fence and into another complex. The victim followed, and saw the thief leave in a silver 1999 Volkswagen Passat. Damage and value were estimated at $1,300.
• A 2008 Smart car in an apartment lot on the 500 block of West Franklin Drive was broken into around 3:15 a.m. Oct. 14; a GPS unit was stolen. A witness saw the burglar run from the car; damage to the car and the unit were valued at $425.
• A 2002 Honda Accord in a lot on the 300 block of Enterprise Drive was broken into overnight Oct. 13-14; a CD player, amplifier, subwoofer and box, wires and radio harness were stolen. Damage and value were estimated at $1,424.
Prospect Heights
• Vandals set a 5-foot scarecrow on fire at a home on the 700 block of Elm Street overnight Oct. 10-11. The fire destroyed the scarecrow and scorched a stone column at the end of the driveway.
• Someone shot a BB-gun pellet into a window at an apartment on the 1400 block of South Wolf Road between midnight and 8 a.m. Oct. 11.
• An orange 2007 Honda motorcycle worth about $10,000 was stolen from the 1200 block of Cove Drive 1-5 a.m. Oct. 14.
• A blue and white 2005 Suzuki motorcycle worth about $6,500 was stolen from the 0-100 block of East Camp McDonald Road between noon Oct. 13 and 10:30 a.m. Oct. 14.
• Two traffic signs, a stone garbage container and a brick wall on the 200 block of Country Club Drive were vandalized with graffiti overnight Oct. 13-14.
• A fare box shelter at the Metra depot, 101 S. Wolf Road, was vandalized with graffiti Oct. 13.
