Trustee named Fox River Grove acting village president

Cindy Cramer has what it takes to be Fox River Grove's acting village president, the board decided Thursday night.

Each trustee welcomed their colleague of one year to the town's highest post with a yes vote, after which Cramer took the oath of office.

"I think she'll do fine, she's a level-headed, very kind person, who does a lot for the village," said Trustee Duane Figurski.

Cramer succeeds former Village President Kay Laube, 61, who died in September after a five-year battle with cancer.

Laube had been at the village's helm since 2005.

Cramer will serve out the remainder of the term that expires April 30.

"I am honored to serve in Kay Laube's shoes and I'm very excited for our village to continue to move on in a positive manner," Cramer said.

Trustees privately deliberated for an hour and eight minutes on Cramer's appointment in an executive session that preceeded the meeting. Figurski said the discussion centered on whether Cramer would drop her trustee position.

In the end, the board chose Cramer instead of Trustee Paulette Pelletier, who, shortly after Laube's death, trustees named president pro tempore to run the meetings.

The trustee of nearly four years said that although she would have "happily accepted" the acting president position, she wasn't surprised about the board's pick.

"It was a unanimous decision (to choose Cramer)," Pelletier said.

While voters will pick a permanent president during the spring elections, Cramer said her name will not be among those vying for the seat.

"I'd like to continue being trustee," she said.

Pelletier, on the other hand says she is planning on making a run for the position.
