Fun Halloween activities are popping up all over Schaumburg in the weeks ahead, and there's bound to be at least one of interest to you.

As early as this evening, there will be a Halloween-themed costumed party for children 18 months to 4 years old at the Schaumburg Park District's Community Recreation Center at 505 N. Springinsguth Road.

The 90-minute program for both kids and their parents begins at 6:15 p.m. and will include games, singalongs, storytime, arts and crafts projects, socialization exercises and more.

Space is limited and preregistration is encouraged by calling (847) 490-7020.

The next installment of the center's Friendly Fridays program is scheduled for Nov. 14.

First Halloween Pet Parade: The park district will host its first-ever Halloween Pet Parade from noon to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Meineke Park, just behind the recreation center at 220 E. Weathersfield Way.

The parade, designed exclusively for dogs, will circle the park and animals should come dressed up and ready to be judged for the most unique costume.

Other activities will include a dog agility course, Frisbee catch competition, tennis ball toss, dog obedience workshop and an area for free play.

There also will be an arts and crafts section offering kist the opportunity to decorate Frisbees for their dog. Pet adoption opportunities will be on-site, and concessions will also be available for purchase. The first dogs registered will receive a special treat.

All dogs must have current shots and have these records attached to the registration form or brought with their owner to Meineke. The resident fee is $1 per person and $4 per dog. The nonresident fee is $2 per person and $6 per dog.

Call (847) 490-7015 or visit www.parkfun.com.

A Haunting in the Valley: Spring Valley Nature Center will incorporate its numerous twisting trails into a haunted experience unlike any other from 5 to 9 p.m. next Friday and Saturday, Oct. 24 and 25.

There will be mystery, surprises and good times at this inaugural event. There will also be wagon rides, a bonfire, Halloween activities and refreshments at the Nature Center.

Matinee wagon rides for younger children will take place from 5 to 6 p.m., with nighttime rides beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Children are encouraged to come in costume. Attendees may arrive anytime during the evening for which their ticket is purchased and be able to take the wagon ride on a first-come, first-served basis.

Space is limited for each evening, so preregistration is advised. Tickets are available at Spring Valley only for $5 per person. Call (847) 985-2100.
