Aurora U. announces awards
Six alumni will receive awards during Aurora University 2008 homecoming weekend. Alumni have been selected from across the nation to receive the Distinguished Alumni award, George Peters Community Partnership award, Athletic Hall of Fame award, and Athletic Lifetime Achievement award at a Golden Reunion reception and banquet at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, in the lobby of the Institute for Collaboration, 407 S. Calumet Ave. in Aurora.
Norris Lineweaver of Indianapolis, Ind., a 1967 George Williams College graduate, will be awarded an honorary degree at the 2008 Founders Convocation at 2 p.m. Friday in Crimi Auditorium. Lineweaver is immediate past director general of the Jerusalem International YMCA. He is working on special assignment for the Y of the USA as a stateside consultant to the Jerusalem YMCA. Additionally, he serves in a variety of special project/mentoring roles with young YMCA leaders in helping devise strategies to address the changing economic climate and the sustainability of the Y movement.
Alumni to be honored at the evening reception are:
• Jeffery Schielke of Batavia, a 1985 AU alumnus, who will receive a Distinguished Alumni Award.
• Louis Vago of Aurora and Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., a 1951 Aurora College alumnus, who will receive a Distinguished Alumni Award.
• James Pilmer of Aurora, a 2004 AU alumnus, who will receive the George Peters Community Partnership Award.
• Dana Lettow Wagner of Aurora, a 1997 AC alumnus, who will be inducted into the AU Athletic Hall of Fame.
• Don Holler of Oswego, AU basketball coach from 1980 to 1994, who will receive the Athletic Lifetime Achievement Award.

Homecoming events open at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 17, with the Founders Convocation in Crimi Auditorium at the Institute for Collaboration, 407 S. Calumet Ave. in Aurora. Alums of the class of 1958 and earlier will be recognized. Faculty and staff will receive service awards. The Saturday, Oct. 18, schedule features: Vision Latina, a celebration of Latino students' success at 10 a.m. in the University Banquet Hall; a display of photos and other artifacts from the Jenks Collection in Phillips Library; and the Schingoethe Center for Native American Cultures will be open for visitors; "Destination Jerusalem," a March 2009 AU-sponsored visit to the Holy Land, will be discussed at 10:30 a.m. by Ron Ramer, associate professor of education, in Lowry Chapel; dedication ceremonies at 12:30 p.m. for the new AU athletic field and stadium; AU's football Spartans will host Concordia University Wisconsin at 1 p.m.; and Corky Siegel's Chamber Blues Show, an Arts and Ideas series event, at 7:30 p.m. in Crimi Auditorium.
