Energy fair at Waubonsee college
The second annual Renewable Energy Fair will be held at Waubonsee Community College's Sugar Grove campus from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18. Admission is free.
The Renewable Energy Fair will feature workshops, exhibits and demonstrations highlighting organic, green and renewable products and services in Erickson Hall. Twenty exhibitors will display everything from outdoor wood furnaces to a one-of-a-kind electric car prototype. Also represented will be various hybrid/electric cars, eco-friendly office products, green interior design and more. Additional highlights include an eco-friendly activity area for families. Kids and parents may use a large collection of recyclable and repurposed materials to create works of "found" art and crafts.
An increasingly popular local group from Yorkville - The Giving Tree Band - will perform at 1 and 3 p.m. Known for their orchestral folk sound, the members of the Giving Tree Band view songwriting and performing as an opportunity to improve the overall - well-being of people and the environment. They embrace simplicity and sustainability by performing with instruments that have been reused or built from naturally fallen trees and reclaimed woods.
The Giving Tree Band members have backgrounds in jazz, folk, rock and classical music. They have performed in many cities throughout the United States and been featured at many of Chicago's most esteemed venues including Navy Pier, The Fine Arts Building, and McCormick Place
The featured speaker is William Haas of the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. He will speak at 10 a.m. on "Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency: Programs and Policies." Jim Kleinwachter of the Conservation Foundation will present two workshops on eco-friendly landscaping and lawn care.
Parking on campus is plentiful and free.
The second Annual Renewable Energy Fair is sponsored by Community Education at Waubonsee Community College.
