1 critical, 1 charged in Kane County crash

A 24-year-old Burlington man remained in critical condition Monday, two days after a crash involving a drunken driver, police said.

Ryan Campbell was driving north on Route 47 west of St. Charles about 1:40 a.m. Saturday when his pickup truck was struck by a sport utility vehicle traveling east on Beith Road. Police said the other driver, Earl Wilkison, 57, of Elburn, ran a stop sign and slammed into Campbell.

Campbell, of 9N916 Muirhead Road, was rushed to Delnor-Community Hospital in Geneva, where he remained listed in critical condition Monday, a hospital spokeswoman said. Wilkison, of 1180 Walker Court, also was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, according to police.

Wilkison was charged with disregarding a traffic control device and two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol. The Kane County Sheriff's Office said he was released on bond at the hospital.

Although the crash remains under investigation, it appears Campbell was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle, police said.
