Pair of armed robbers strike Schaumburg, Woodfield
Police kept busy Wednesday night after a pair of gun-toting robbers struck in Schaumburg, including one at Woodfield Shopping Center.
No one was hurt in either case, and both men ran off with undisclosed sums of money, Schaumburg police Sgt. John Nebl said.
Authorities do not believe the two robberies were connected, nor is either thought to have been committed by the same person police believe is responsible for a rash of recent convenient store and gas station heists in Schaumburg.
"It's just a coincidence they happened in a close time period, that's about it," Nebl said.
The man suspected in the previous robberies wore a mask, was shorter and weighed less than either of the suspect in Wednesday's incidents, police said.
Wednesday's first robbery happened about 7:45 p.m. at a store on the first block of Golf Road near Roselle Road, Nebl said. The lone gunman demanded money and ran off.
A similar scene occurred about an hour later at a women's store inside Woodfield. Nebl would not identify the store. He called armed robberies at Woodfield a rare occurrence.
The Woodfield suspect is described as in his late 20s, about 6 feet tall, 215 to 220 pounds with a medium build, short brown hair and a thin mustache. He was last seen wearing a dark brown sweater and light blue jeans.
The Golf Road suspect is described as 25 to 30 years old, 6 feet to 6 feet 2 inches tall, 220 to 230 pounds and heavyset with a thin beard. He was wearing a black baseball cap, brown T-shirt and blue jeans. Nebl said witnesses couldn't provide enough information to get compile a sketch on the Golf Road suspect.
Those with information on either robbery are asked to call Schaumburg police at (847) 882-3586.
