Homes with history go on tour
One 1920s house was inspired by travels through the French countryside.
Another - a recent build- was designed to fit into an established historic neighborhood with large frame homes.
All four of the houses, and one church, participating today in Wheaton's house walk offers something different for those who stop in to see them. The walk begins at 10 a.m. and continues through 8 p.m. Tickets cost $30 and area available at the Center for History, 315 W. Front St.
The houses participating in the tour include 405 W. Harrison Ave., 211 W. Jefferson Ave., 211 W. Franklin St., 304 N. Gary Ave. and the 126-year-old chapel at Trinity Church, 130 N. West St.
Each offers something different, explained Jane Rio, the center's marketing and events director.
• 405 W. Harrison Ave. was built after the owner toured France and was constructed from her images of various types of homes.
• 304 N. Gary Ave. offers a wealth of colors.
• 211 W. Franklin St. shows an example of fitting a new home in an established neighborhood.
• 211 W. Jefferson Ave. is a restored 1920s home with an updated interior.
• Trinity Episcopal Church, 130 N. West St., offers a beautiful 126-year-old chapel.
Rio said homes aren't only selected for their exteriors, it's what inside that matters, as well.
"People go for decorating ideas as well as the history of the house," she said.
