Automotive business to hold grand opening

A Fremd High School graduate was driven to motor sports at the age of 15 when a buddy took him to a street race.

"I saw all the souped up cars. It caught my attention," said Kris Von Sydow.

At 16, he started street racing and then got into road racing.

Now at 21, Von Sydow opened his own business VS Motorsports at 1045 E. Remington in Schaumburg.

The business focuses on building race cars, fleet maintenance and automotive repair.

Von Sydow is hosting an open house from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11. Food and refreshments will be served.

While motor sports are the specialty at the shop, the business offers all repair services for automobiles.

"We're a one-stop shop for everything," Von Sydow said.

The shop features state of the art equipment, including a top of the line machine for balancing tires.

The shop also features a dealership-style car wash.

Von Sydow has also attempted to make the showroom and waiting area as comfortable as possible. Four flat-screen TVs, three laptops and three Xbox 360s are available for customers while they wait.

Von Sydow grew up in his family business, Von Sydow's Moving & Storage in Palatine. That business, which started in 1888, has been an Allied Van Lines agent for 80 years.
