Settlement wins awards

The archeological digs at the homestead site of Naperville founder Joseph Naper recently netted the Naperville Heritage Society/Naper Settlement the American Cultural Resources Association's 2008 Quality Product Award, Large Project. The city of Naperville purchased the original Naper homestead at 338 W. Jefferson Ave. in April 2006, and the Heritage Society/Naper Settlement hired the Missiouri-based SCI. Engineering to conduct digs on the property in August 2006 and August 2007. The digs revealed foundation elements for three structures that once stood on the site and 25,000 artifacts. SCI. nominated the project for the award.

Glenbard sponsors seminar

Glenbard East High School is sponsoring a College Planning Seminar for students and parents from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, in Rider Hall at the school, 1014 S. Main St., Lombard. It is offering the following sessions: College Selection and Admissions presented by the guidance department staff; How to Choose a Motivating College Major presented by Peg Hendershot of Career Vision; Financial Aid and Scholarships presented by Susan Daly of College Planners, Inc. Volunteer fair rescheduled

A two-day volunteer recruitment fair that was rained out last month has been rescheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at Cantigny Park in Wheaton. The fair is sponsored by Giving DuPage, a clearing house of local charities. Registration for the fair is still open to all Giving DuPage agencies. Organizers said 35 to 40 agencies would be present at the event. The fair is being held in conjunction with the annual "Make A Difference Day." For more information, visit dupageco.org/givingdupage.
