ECC to host college night

Elgin Community College will host a College Night from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, in the Visual and Performing Arts Center on the main campus, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin. Representatives from more than 140 colleges and universities including Marquette, Valparaiso, the University of Illinois, Coe College and Michigan State University will be available to answer questions about admissions requirements, athletics, housing and financial aid.

Mental health court receives donation

The McHenry County Mental Health Court Task Force has received a $300 donation from the Mental Health Resource League for McHenry County. The funds will be used to assist the court in meeting the needs of mental health court participants. The court began in 2007 as a means to get mentally ill, nonviolent defendants psychological treatment and other assistance to deal with the behavioral issues that caused their criminal actions. It currently has about 25 participants. For details on the court, call (815) 334-4159.

Village warns of siren test

Carpentersville officials remind residents that the village's emergency management warning sirens are tested on the first Tuesday of each month. During the testing, the siren will sound for about one to two minutes, compared to an actual emergency when the siren would sound until the danger has passed. Centegra offer flu shots

With the flu season approaching, Centegra Health System is providing $25 flu vaccinations at its immediate care centers. The centers are at 10350 Haligus Road in Huntley, and 360 Station Drive in Crystal Lake. The offices are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Walk-ins are welcome. Call (815) 338-6600.
