Briefs: Cheer Alliance open house

Cheer Alliance, which offers cheerleading programs for children 3 to 18, is holding its annual pep rally and open house at 1 p.m. today at 1500 Foundry St., Unit 3 in St. Charles. Admission is free. Teams, including the Wild Cats team for children who are disabled or have special needs, will be performing cheerleading routines. Each team is also bringing in items for Lazarus House, which provides shelter and counseling for the homeless. For information, visit cheer-alliance.com.

Orchard Road construction

Orchard Road, north of Indian Trail Road in Aurora, will be reduced to one northbound lane beginning Monday. Crews will repair a section of concrete pavement. Kane sheriff honored

The Hispanic State Law Enforcement Association recently honored Kane County Sheriff Pat Perez with the Hector Jordan Lifetime Achievement Award. Perez's father and former Kane County Undersheriff Pete Perez received the same award in 1990. The award recognizes "a lifetime of contribution, sacrifice and perseverance against odds that most of us never overcome," according to the association. For more information, visit hislea.org.

Group home reopens

A little more than a year after a DuPage County Health Department group home in West Chicago was heavily damaged by fire, facility staff is marking its reopening. The group home houses eight clients from the county's mental health services division. An open house will be held before a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 5 p.m. Wednesday at 142 Wood St.

Golf for softball

The Geneva Foxes Fastpitch softball organization is having a golf party to raise money for indoor training and equipment, at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 18 at Mill Creek Golf Club in Geneva. Cost is $110, and the format is best-ball scramble. Dinner-only is $40. There is a cash bar. Hole sponsorships are $150 for one, $250 for two.
