World Class Basketball Association: The World Class Basketball Association is looking for players for the 2008-09 Winter AAU/travel basketball season. Players in fifth-eighth grade, who are serious about the game of basketball and have a desire to play high school basketball in the future, are being sought. Substitute bowlers needed: The Wednesday Senior Men's Bowling League seeks seniors age 55 and older interested in bowling as a substitute when regular teams are missing bowlers. The league bowls at 12:15 p.m. Wednesdays at Elk Grove Bowl, Higgins and Arlington Heights roads. Cost is minimal. League luncheon and prize awards at the end of the season. Fall golf specials: The Des Plaines Park District will offer two new specials at the Lake Park Golf Course, Howard and Lee streets. Seven Dollar Sundays and the Five Dollar After School Special are available through Oct. 31 for golfers of all ages. Residents and nonresidents, can play unlimited golf for $7 all day on Sunday. The $5 After School Special allows golfers unlimited play after 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Call (847) 391-5730.

FSC Aquatics teams open registration: Open registration is being held for the FSC Aquatics swim, diving and polo team. No tryouts required, all welcome. Basketball tournaments: There is a new basketball tournament organization that has various tournaments for boys and girls teams fifth grade through senior high school. The tournament directors have over 60 years of tournament running experience between them and include a former college coach and current high school varsity coach. Boating safety class: 8:30-1 p.m.; Oct. 4 and 11; Prairie Lakes community Center, 515 E. Thacker St., Des Plaines. Conducted by the U.S. Coast Guard. Boaters ages 12 to 18 must pass a qualified safety class before operating a vessel.
