The gold thread that runs through us all
As I listened to the speakers at the Republican convention, I was very dismayed to hear their words dripping with barbs and sarcasm but lacking in thoughtful ideas.
They said nothing that demonstrated they could be clear thinking leaders with the insight to understand the many different peoples and cultures of the United States and the world.
The Republicans did not nominate candidates for our times. They did not consider who can most effectively deal with the realities of life today.
To my amazement, Sen. McCain's vice presidential choice is not in any way qualified to take over this country if that should ever become necessary.
Sarah Palin has a caustic attitude that is exactly what we do not need in this potentially explosive world.
I am very frightened when I think of McCain and Palin, with their volatile temperaments, in control of the fate of this country.
I sincerely believe senators Obama and Biden can find the right ways to unite us with one another within this country and also with the people around the world who have lost faith in what we stand for.
These Democratic candidates have the sensitivity and intelligence that inspires respect and they have the wisdom to know that words can sometimes be more powerful than bombs.
They can speak to the dreams of people everywhere who hunger for life as it can and should be on this delicate planet.
They are the best hope for bringing to reality our longing for peace, and they will respect the golden thread that runs through all people and ties them one to the other.
I passionately believe that senators Obama and Biden have the intelligence, the depth and the ability to look at the world in a new and hopeful way and, as our president and vice-president, they can be our path to a safer and healthier future.
