Tax cuts a help for all Americans
In "A Democrat's View," (Sept. 4 editorial page), Alexi Giannoulias doesn't bother checking the facts before spewing his liberal class warfare propaganda. He states "McCain wants to make Bush's tax cuts permanent for the top one percent of wealthy Americans while the middle class struggles to pay its bills." As a tax professional who has prepared thousands of my fellow citizens' tax returns over the last 25 years, covering all income levels, I can attest to the fact that the Bush tax cuts have benefited all American taxpayers, regardless of their income. In fact, those at the lowest income levels pay little or no taxes. Giannoulias' statement that Bush's tax cuts solely benefit the top 1 percent of wealthy Americans is untrue. As the Illinois state treasurer, I am appalled that his knowledge of our nation's tax code is so lacking.
Mr. Giannoulias, the next time you decide to write about U.S. tax policy, I suggest you take the time to check the facts beforehand. Unless, of course, the facts just get in the way of the argument you are trying to make and it's more convenient to just make things up.
