Briefs: Kaneland boundary hearing

Kaneland School District 302 holds a public hearing on boundary changes at 7 tonight at John Stewart Elementary School, 817 Prairie Valley St., Elburn. The purpose is to provide informtion and gather input from parents and residents.

Community Crisis Center honors

The 18th annual Partners in Peace Breakfast will be held at 7:30 a.m. Friday at Elgin Country Club. The breakfast is an opportunity for the Community Crisis Center to honor individuals and groups in the community who, in their professional capacity, provide outstanding services to victims of domestic violence. This year, the Center will honor Kane County State's Attorney John Barsanti, Mary Hodges from Open Door Clinic, First Congregational Church of Dundee, Diane O'Connor from United Way of Elgin, Rev. Joel Kline from Church of the Brethren, Lorena Reyes from University of Illinois Extension Services, and Assistant Cook County State's Attorney Ketki Steffan. The guest speaker will be Vicki Smith, executive director of the Illinois Coalition of Domestic Violence. South Elgin walk nears

The South Elgin Parks and Recreation FUNdation and the village of South Elgin will host their fourth-annual 7K run and 2-mile fun walk beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday. The event begins and ends at the Municipal Annex, 1 W. State St. Same-day registration opens at 6:30 a.m. and more than 300 people are expected to participate. All participants will receive participation awards with additional awards for the top five best performances in the following categories: boys 14 and younger; girls 14 and younger; females 15 and older; and males 15 and older. The cost is $20 beforehand or $25 race day for the 7K run. The 2-mile walk is $10 pre-race or $15 race day. The FUNdation is offering a family pre-race rate of $8 for the walk. Registrations will be accepted at village hall, 10 N. Water St. or at signmeup.com.

Hafenrichter Road closed:

Hafenrichter Road on Aurora's far east side was closed between Barrington Drive East and Whitethorn Drive beginning Monday for reconstruction. The closure is expected to last six weeks. The detour route will direct drivers to use Eola Road to 87th Street to Normantown Road.
